This is the 15th year of continuous daily publication for 365Caws. All things considered, it's likely it will be the last year as it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to find interesting material. However, I hope that I may have inspired someone to a greater curiosity about the natural world with my natural history posts, or encouraged a novice weaver or needleworker. If so, I've done what I set out to do.

Changing Up A German Birdseye
Day 76: I tried five different weft colours, hoping to find something which would work with the warp stripes, and was only satisfied with two (dark blue and black). The draft ("A German Bird's Eye," HPB green edition, p. 20) had been written for a light warp and dark weft. My plan wasn't working out well. Because I want to have a new warp on this loom for New Year's Weave, I decided to change treadlings to something different for the last towel. As I began working on it, I saw how I could change it up to make a double diamond (a treadling Davison did not include). If nothing else, it would give a little more textural interest to the piece, and now that I'm nearly done, I wish I'd thought to do this earlier. I've included the draft in the image in case anyone wants to copy it off and use it with better colour choices, like maybe, you know, d'uh, dark on light.
